Getting a Library Card

Free to Pittsfield Residents

Library cards are free of charge to Pittsfield residents and those whose primary job is in Pittsfield. You must come into the library with a photo ID and proof of residency to apply for a card. Your card will be mailed to you. You may not check out items until you receive your card. If you lose your card, you will be charged a $2.50 fee for a replacement.

Non-Residents may apply for a library card for a fee of $20.00 a year. The non-resident fee is based on an approximate annual per capita figure using the library’s total budget costs for the citizens of Pittsfield.

Children are allowed to have their own card when parents or guardians confirm that the child has learned to read independently. Parents or guardians must sign a statement of responsibility for children under the age of 18.

 Family Cards

Parents or guardians with children under the age of 18 may opt to apply for a “Family Card” which will enable more than one family member to use the same card.
