The first time that a library card is used a total of two items may be borrowed per card. Once the items are returned there are no limits, except for DVDs. All adult patrons are limited to three DVDs per cardholder at any given time. Cardholders under the age of eighteen are not allowed to borrow DVDs. For patrons in good standing the number of all other items is not limited.
New Books – two weeks
All other materials except DVDs – three weeks
DVDs – one week
A patron can request renewal of an item as many times as they would like. Renewals will be granted dependent on patron standing and demand for the item.
Renewals are usually granted except for Inter library Loans and items that have a reserve placed on them. If another library patron has reserved an item, then that item cannot be renewed. Renewal requests can be placed in person, over the telephone or via email.
The library no longer has fines for overdue materials. There is a “guilt jar” on the circulation desk if you would like to make a donation. However, if you have lost an item, the library may request funds to replace the item.
If an item owned by the Josiah Carpenter Library that a patron wants is not available when they would like it, they may chose to place a reserve on the item. A patron can place a reserve on an item at the library, through their library accounts online, by e-mailing the library, or calling the library. The patron will need the title and preferably the author of the item at the time they place the reserve. When the item becomes available the patron will be notified of its availability and the patron will have one week to pick up the item.
